AION 2 Classes (Global): All 8 Classes, Weapons and Roles
AION 2 Global launches with eight classes. NC says the game "faithfully inherits the original eight classes" of AION. This page lists each class with its weapon and NC's own one-line description, and clears up two common mix-ups from older guides: Brawler and Elementalist. It's not a tier list. The role notes come from NC's descriptions, not from us.
TL;DR
- 8 Global classes: Gladiator, Templar, Assassin, Ranger, Sorcerer, Spiritmaster, Cleric and Chanter.
- Frontline tanks: Gladiator and Templar, with high durability, according to NC.
- Fast, precise damage: Assassin and Ranger.
- Burst damage: Sorcerer. Solo-oriented play: Spiritmaster.
- Survivability with offense: Cleric and Chanter.
- Brawler isn't in Global. It's a Korean-version class.
- Spiritmaster is the Global name. Older English guides call it "Elementalist."
All 8 classes at a glance
| Class | Weapon | NC's tagline |
|---|---|---|
| Gladiator | Greatsword | Dominate the Battlefield |
| Templar | Longsword | Fight on the Frontlines |
| Assassin | Daggers | Hunt from the Shadows |
| Ranger | Bow | Hunt with Precision |
| Sorcerer | Spellbook | Unleash Your Power |
| Spiritmaster | Orb | Control the Elements |
| Cleric | Mace | Sustain the Fight |
| Chanter | Staff | Support and Destroy |

Weapon skins are class-locked: NC's skin notice marks each one as available only to players of that class. NC's Founder's Pack table also marks the Eternal Sun weapon skin chest as class-bound and server-bound (see the Founder's Pack guide).
Roles in NC's words
NC's Team Update video sums up the classes in pairs. In short:
- Gladiator and Templar are frontline tanks with exceptional durability.
- Assassin and Ranger specialize in swift attacks with deadly precision.
- Sorcerer delivers devastating burst damage.
- Spiritmaster excels at solo-oriented play.
- Cleric and Chanter focus on survivability while keeping offensive capability.
Gladiator
Greatsword. Tagline: "Dominate the Battlefield." One of NC's two frontline tanks.

Templar
Longsword. Tagline: "Fight on the Frontlines." NC's other frontline tank.

Assassin
Daggers. Tagline: "Hunt from the Shadows." Swift, precise attacks.

Ranger
Bow. Tagline: "Hunt with Precision." Swift, precise attacks at range.

Sorcerer
Spellbook. Tagline: "Unleash Your Power." Burst damage.

Spiritmaster
Orb. Tagline: "Control the Elements." NC singles it out for solo-oriented play.

Cleric
Mace. Tagline: "Sustain the Fight." Survivability while keeping offensive power.

Chanter
Staff. Tagline: "Support and Destroy." Survivability while keeping offensive power.

Spiritmaster vs "Elementalist"
They're the same class. NC's global notices, the class title card and NC's class video all use Spiritmaster (one word). "Elementalist" is the name you'll find in older English guides written around the Korean version. If a guide says Elementalist, read it as Spiritmaster, and check whether the rest of the guide is about the Korean version too.
The Sorcerer is spelled Sorcerer on NC's title card and in its notices. One of NC's video titles uses a different spelling, but it's the same class.
Brawler is a Korean-version class
You may see a ninth class, Brawler, in guides and class lists. Brawler is a KR only class from the Korean version. NC's press release on the Korean Chapter 1 update introduced it there. AION 2 Global has 8 classes, and NC hasn't announced Brawler for Global in the notices we use. More differences: Global vs Korea.
Which class should a beginner or solo player pick?
We don't rank classes, and NC hasn't named a beginner class or a strongest class. What NC does give is a one-line role for each pair, so you can pick by the way you like to play:
| If you want… | NC's description points to |
|---|---|
| To play mostly on your own | Spiritmaster ("excels in solo-oriented gameplay") |
| To hold the front line and take hits | Gladiator, Templar ("frontline tanks with exceptional durability") |
| To stay alive and still deal damage | Cleric, Chanter (survivability while keeping offensive capability) |
| Fast, precise damage | Assassin (daggers), Ranger (bow) |
| Big burst damage | Sorcerer |
If you're new, the plain approach is to pick the role that sounds fun, then watch that class's video below. Each one is NC's own gameplay footage.
Can you change class later, and how many characters can you make per server? NC hasn't covered either in the notices we use, so check the character-select screen in game.

NC published a short video for each class on the AION 2 YouTube channel. Each thumbnail is marked "Actual gameplay footage."
